LIRS shuts down Protea Hotel over Tax Evasion

LIRSThe Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has sealed Protea Hotel, close to Kuramo Waters, over alleged failure to remit N11.07 million personal income taxes deducted from workers’ salaries.
Ajibike Oshodi-Sholola, Head, Distrain Unit of LIRS, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) during a statewide tax law enforcement exercise in Lagos on Wednesday.
NAN recalls that the same Protea Hotel was sealed by the revenue service over evasion of N148.88 million consumption and hotel occupancy taxes on June 9.

Zimbabwean President, Robert Mugabe has instructed the Commissioner General of Zimbabwe Police Republic, Augustine Chihuri to arrest and detain the whole Zimbabwean Olympic Team members immediately the arrive at the Harare International Airport on Tuesday, August 23.

Zimbabwe which is one of the countries in the Olympics without a medal presented a team of 31 athletes. The closest any of the athletes came to win a contest was at the 8th position.

Mr. Mugabe who is incensed with the team’s performance told the Police Chief to arrest all the team members and detain them.

Catholic Priest in Kaduna sacked for having 2 wives

A catholic priest in Kaduna state has been disrobed and sacked from the priesthood following revelations that he was allegedly married to two women.
The priest, Reverend Father Peter Zuni, 54, was in charge of Queen of Apostles Catholic Church, Kakuri parish, Kaduna State.
According to SUN, one of the women is dead and the second one who blew the whistle about three weeks ago over the secret marriage is said to be nursing a child for the embattled priest.

Susanne, the widow of the Chief Protocol Officer of the Minister of State for Defence, Mr. Desmond Nunugwo, has accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission of killing her husband and labelling him a criminal. She explained that six hours after Desmond was taken into custody, he was pronounced dead. She told PUNCH Metro that she had been calling her husband’s phone repeatedly but it was switched off as she did not know he was in EFCC’s custody in Wuse 2, Abuja. Susanne said, “Around 3pm on June 9, my husband had gone to pick up our son from school and they both returned home. He later went out. Around 6pm, I called his line and it rang once. I tried his number several times later, but it was off. “The next morning, I got1 apprehensive when he didn’t come home. However, around 3.48pm, someone called me with his phone and said my husband was in the EFCC’s custody and I should come to bail him.” Susanne said on getting to the EFCC, she was told to go and get a man because being a woman, her husband could not be released on bail to her.

EFCC confirms arrest of Blogger; to release him on bail #FreeAbuSidiq


The EFCC today released a statement on the arrest of blogger Abubakar Sidiq over Cyberstalking. If you recall #FreeAbuSidiq trended on Twitter yesterday. The blogger who is know for his pro buhari stance will be released on bail.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC today arrested Mr. Abubakar Sidiq Usman, a blogger, for offences bordering on cyber stalking. The suspect who is the publisher of Abusidiqu.com was picked up at his Kubwa, Abuja home in the early hours of Monday August 8, 2016 by operatives of the EFCC and is currently being questioned over the alleged offence which contravenes sections of the Cyber Crime Act. The suspect has already been offered administrative bail and would be released to his elected sureties.  

Marketers to Increase Fuel Price over Forex Scarcity

Nigerians should prepare for another increase in the pump prices of petrol, due to the continued scarcity of foreign exchange to finance the importation of the product, oil marketers have said.
According to them, the United States dollar hit an all-time high last week, as it exchanged for N400 at the parallel market.
Worried by the development, the marketers say if not urgently addressed, the pump prices of petrol will not remain at the approved rates.

Our correspondent gathered that the female suspect was accosted while making telephone calls somewhere in the town and some youths, who suspected that she was a kidnapper, pounced on her and beat her. The woman was said to have been taken to the palace and the mob who dragged her there asked the monarch to interrogate her, believing that the woman would confess. But while the Kabiyesi was said to be asking the woman some questions, some policemen were said to have arrived the palace and the irate mob who were irked by the arrival of the security agents started hurling stones at them.

Chinese Man hangs self in Lagos

A 50-year-old Chinese national, Si Guicai, has killed himself in Itohan Avenue, Ikeja area of Lagos, on Friday. Guicai allegedly hanged himself to the iron window of his apartment at 9:00 p.m.

It was however, gathered that no one could really say the reason for his decision, as he was just found dead the following morning. Lagos police spokesperson, Dolapo Badmos confirmed the incident.
